Edit 7/29/2014: If you are installing Apex 10.8 or above you do not need to worry about these installation options. Simply install Apex from the installation CD (or network share).
Apex works great on Windows Vista and above, but there are a few nuances when you install it. There are three supported options you can use:
- Turn UAC (User Account Control) off before you install Apex. If you want to turn UAC on afterwards you may need to configure Apex to run in Windows XP SP3 compatibility mode. Try to run it first and see if you have any issues. This seems to vary by Windows version and service pack. It is not necessary on Windows 8 for instance.
- -OR- Install Apex normally and configure the shortcut to "Run this program as an administrator". (This option can be seen in the picture above under the "Privilege Level" settings.)
- -OR- Install Apex normally and then change the file and registry permissions as outlined in Running Apex on a Terminal Server.
Please be sure to call Vulcan Software support if you need help with any of these options.
